Advantages and Challenges of Digital Homework
Digital homework is an answer to address the current scenario where student would thrive for more and teacher could easily track and correct student’s mistake and error. Digital homework is no isolation to conventional homework giving trend but it’s the current demand of time. It has following objectives and limitations.
Benefits of Digital Homework
•Long holidays like (Dashain and Tihar, summer and winter vacations) when there is no time limitation, digital homework engages student with their studies longer time without making them bored and jaded.
•A student tries to figure out what he should do and how he should accomplish his task, leading to characters research, creativity and innovation is student.
•He develops communication skills either from the presentation slide or report writing with thorough ideas from his friends, elders and parents which enhances his team work, coordination capabilities.
•He develops different opinion towards digital gadgets like smart phone, tab, laptops making them livelier in their studies than just for a mere gaming, chatting purposes.
•His skill knows no limit to overcome his task and reveals new software and apps and thus adapts to new digital trend along with studies.
•His knowledge about the subject matter gets more concrete and gets reinforced while creating digital content on his own.
•The best homework will be teaching material for the teacher and motivational material for the students which drive them to work even better. It’s both a win-win situation for both the teacher and student.
Challenges of Digital Homework
With a change comes a challenge. Every time with the slightest modification to existing system there is huge transition and challenges to adapt new circumstances. Thus, there are few challenges to be kept in mind.
•Teachers should be IT friendly and seek assistance from computer department at times. They must at least have email address where they can download and upload.
•There should be high inter departmental coordination in order to give digital homework.
•Resources with students should be considered and output should be judged accordingly.
•Plagiarism is the biggest danger of this concept. Teacher should highly encourage students to work on their own.
•Storage devices and various cloud storage concept is to be understood both students and teachers.
•Digital Homework cannot be given to small junior students since they have minimum computer knowledge.
•Scholarship students without computer will feel more inferior. However, computer lab would be open for them at off hours. They can have extended deadlines to complete their assignments.
•Digital Homework checking can b e cumbersome if we run out of computers at departments.
•All computers should have antivirus to ensure the virus eradication else virus will take its toll on the entire school network.
